Pours a clear golden with a foamy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet malt. Taste is similar to aroma with a mild hop bitterness. Very good Pils. Costco Advent calendar 2024. BB 5-2026

I am down to the last Pils in the twelve-pack. I used my old Michelob glass for this review and served the beer at 42 degrees. The pour resulted in a frothy, airy, three-fingered white head with excellent retention, leaving bits lacing on the glass. The beer's color is light straw with a pale golden yellow charting at SRM2 and is translucent. Considering the beer is clear, I want to determine what classifies as unfiltered. The appearance of the beer is average for this style.
Upon nosing the glass, I was greeted with a surprising bouquet of white pepper, herbal, soft, toasted malts, and crackers. These aromas, not typical of a pils, were accompanied by a malty sweetness and a light earthiness, adding to the unexpectedness. The mildness of the aromas only added to their intrigue.
The flavors start with notes of floral, white pepper, light herbal, and crackers. The malt profile has little depth, with notes of biscuits, malty sweetness, and lightly toasted bread. A slight mineral, lemons, and yeasty finish are at the flavors' end.
The body is light and has high carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth and finishes dry.
While the Pilsner may not be as crisp as I would prefer, and the flavors not as defined, it still holds promise. Yes, the flavor profile is Pilsner, but it seems to be missing that extra something. I couldn't help but wonder how much better this beer would be if it were fresher.

Look is a murky thick-looking yellow.

Smell is yeasty straw and hops.

Taste is hoppier than expected. A little carbonation to tickle the tongue on the front and a lot of bitterness that lingers on the aftertaste. Mouthfeel isn't too thin.

Not super memorable, but nothing to dislike. I wouldn't buy it on purpose, but wouldn't turn down a pour either.

Fürst Carl Schlossbrauerei "Pils Unfiltered"
50 cl can coded "EXP 2024/03 11:44 2505MU". Sampled on 22 October 2023

Notes via stream of consciousness: So where does this come from, Ellingen? That's south of Nürnberg but I don't think I've ever been there. It's poured a very hazy golden body beneath a finger's width of white foam. The aroma expresses sweetish and grainy malt with just a light touch of grassy, floral, and subtly citrusy hops. On to the taste then... it's fully flavored with plenty of sweetish, grainy, and bready malt that's threaded through with floral, grassy, and delicately lemon-like hop notes. There's a little bit of a mineral character to it, and a firm bitterness balances it and leads to a dry finish with a little bit of everything lingering shortly. It's a touch spicy as well. I like to call that well-rounded, where all of the components work together and none appear too much stronger than any of the others. It's nicely balanced between sweet malt, hops, mineral, and bitterness as well. In the mouth it's medium bodied leaning towards the fuller end, and gently crisp. It's really a nice, charming, easy to drink Pils that reminds me of a kellerpils that I tasted in Wien, Austria but I cannot remember the name. If the head retention and lacing were a little bit better this would be a real winner.

Pours a pretty hazy golden with a creamy looking white head. A little lime zest on the nose. It's kind of boring to be honest and not particularly distinct. The mouthfeel is a bit stodgy and the malt doesn't really taste of fresh bread nor do the hops of fresh citrus zest. It's nothing to write home about.

Pours a cloudy, straw yellow with moderate head that dispels slowly. Continued rise of carbonation maintains a little head until the bottom of the glass. Smell is very crisp grain with strong floral and grassy hop notes. Taste is very clean, almost dry, starting with grain, with a mineral taste in the middle and hop bitterness and grassy flavor coming on in the aftertaste. From the smell, I was expecting more balance between the malt flavor and the hop flavor, but there's much more bitterness than flavor from the hops. Overall, this fits the Pilsner standard pretty well, although I expect more hop flavor to go with the bitterness.

APPEARANCE: Semi-clean golden, with big white head and very little lace.

NOSE: Toasty malts. Simple but fine.

TASTE: Crisp, sweet, and malty. I get a dry, medicinal note at finish. A little funky on the palate, somehow. Fair to ok at best.

Pours a very light golden. Fluffy 2-finger head, no carbonation seen rising.

Aroma is grassy, hay, sweet.

Taste is grassy, honey, floral hops, bread and some light lemon.

Mouthfeel is light and cleansing.

Overall, enjoyable and sessionable.

500ml can, small tulip, expires March 2024.

Lightly hazed golden pour with a small white head.

Malty with bready, sprouted grain, and sweet notes. Some alcohol, herbal hop, and cooked veggie aroma. It’s got a softer nose than their regular Pils.

Sweet light malt that’s hard to describe other than like sweet corn or sweet white bread. There is a mild bitterness, though it is skewed toward sweet. The cooked veggie note is a little stronger than normal for the style.

Again, the feel is a little softer than a normal Pils. Moderate body, light to moderate carbonation

Overall unfiltered is nice, but I prefer the more bitter, biting edge of their and other “regular” Pilsners.

quite fond of this one, one of the fresher tasting beers in this advent calendar box, which i am most of the way through now. its really clean and crisp, simple in the best way, like the style should be, not overly hopped, nice and dry, and with most of its intrigue coming from the yeast, which is obviously german to me in aroma and flavor but also subtle distinctive to this beer, perhaps this brewery, this is my first from them, or should i say furst! sorry. slightly sudsy and soapy in the aroma, but on top of a fresh and crackery pils malt base fermented to dryness, and with just light floral hops in support, balanced but minimal, clean as they come. the water is right on this, and thats always so crucial in this style. the hop flavor is here but the bitterness is low, a little unexpected compared to some of the others in this box, less spicy, less assertive, more drawn out and herbal, really works with this dry and minimal grain. the yeast has a light doughy rawness to it that i like and seems to exacerbate the dry finish, and the effervescent carbonation is spot on for this. a little more mineral forward, even coppery as it warms a little, but it stays refreshing, tidy, brisk, and easy down the whole can. really solid pils, nice and basic but also not dumbed down or cheap in any way. i was quite pleased with this, as was my wife! better than its ratings.
