330ml bottle, Pilsner glass, best by 11/25/22.
The color is a familiarly hazy golden rod, most of Fürst Carl’s season or special beers seem to be unfiltered, and helps me confirm my selection of American Pale Ale as the style for this one. They also have a beer called Pale Ale, but it wasn’t available in the restaurant or shop. The head is towering and sticky, affirming the German tradition of voluminous head.
The aroma brings me back towards home and pale ales found in many brew pubs. Fruity hops and yeast. Pear, as billed, diacetyl, turninado sugar, orange flower.
It’s subtle, but flavorful, with the hops providing pear essence and a variety of floral flavors - grass, jasmine, smashed flower petals. Honey and faint biscuit malt.
Medium body, low to medium carbonation. Very neutral in the mouth.
It always tickles me to see German brewers giving non-German styles a go and doing things like dry hopping. This does leave some room for improvement, but if your craving a pre-extreme beer or English inspired pale ale while in germany, seek it out. I did file under American, but it could just as easily reside under English.
