Aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel given to us by our friends at Library Pub, this American Black Ale is medium bodied with notes of chocolate, toffee, and definite hints of bourbon, oak, and vanilla.

Pours dark brown with three fingers of khaki foam. Nice retention. Aroma is barrel and whiskey heavy. Toast, wafers, and mild roasty malts build out the aroma after the initial hit of boozy barrel. Flavor profile is barrel soaked toast, wafer, caramel, and bread malts. Sticky hops add some contrast to the malts. It's pretty hot, but it settles a bit as the beer warms. Mouth feel is medium in thickness. Texture leans rich, with a firm creaminess throughout. Overall, pretty hot and BA forward for certain, otherwise good.
