Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin, dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla, cocoa and a little caramel. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, coffee, vanilla, bakers chocolate and touch of black pepper. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I had forgotten what an affogato was and was expecting a dessert stout, so the clear coffee flavor took me by surprise. I've had a coffee affogato and it all came back to me. This is a pretty nice tribute to that coffee drink. Quality coffee flavor, light chocolate and good, but balance vanilla with a touch of caramel. Fairly dry like a coffee drink with unsweetened dairy would be. The trend to copy desserts, cocktails and other drinks seems to be everywhere now and this is one I've not seen before. It's a natural for a stout which melds with both vanilla and coffee well. Nicely done and flavorful.
