Double Sweet - German Chocolate Cake

16 ounce can, no dating that I noticed on the can or label. Purchased at the brewery last week. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that fizzled away kinda quickly. Decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, walnuts, cacao, vanilla and some coffee. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some dark bread, coconut and caramel flavors noticeable too. It's more sweet tasting than roasty to me, but does remind me of a German Chocolate Cake. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit coating and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was a good overall brew, worth trying if you get the chance!

16oz can poured into a tulip.

Pours almost black; fluffy and creamy khaki head that fades leaving nice retention and lacing. Some sediment noticeable on the second pour which really affects the appearance, and not for the better.

The aromas are malt forward along with some chocolate. Subtle hints of hazelnut and peanut butter.

The flavors are very sweet, which was expected. More milk chocolate. Some caramel and vanilla frosting. More hazelnut in the mix. Lots of milk sugars. Lactose is strong. There's a subtle bitterness. Strong malt backbone. Subtle warmth in the finish.

Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, sticky and smooth.

This is a solid brew. If you like really sweet stouts then you will likely like this. They do a decent job of emulating German chocolate cake. It's obviously a very fitting "dessert beer". Not bad at all.
