Burnt yellow nearing amber with a short white head.

Better than good, this exhibits a pleasant malt whose sweetness is tempered by the foeder in ways that amp up qualities that almost emulat helles or even pils without any of the unpleasant metallic Brillo characteristics I sometimes get from foeder aged lagers.

Thanks to Pinz412 for this one, from his NBS BIF #13 boxes. 16oz can (dated 3/24/21) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a lightly cloudy medium-dark gold color with a half-inch of white head that had OK retention and good lacing.

Wood at the front of the nose, with some solid base grains in the background, topped off with some floral and spicy hops.

Very much the same on the tongue, just bolder and better defined. good wood at the front and middle, nice malts all across the palate, and just enough hop zing to balance out some sweetness.

The body was medium, leaning a bit towards full, smooth, and with a medium finish that dried out nicely after a few moments.

Drinkability was great, I could easily see draining these on the regular.

Overall, an awesome brew, one I'd be happy to drink, and send out in BIF boxes, regularly. a must-try if you see it.

Foeder Aged Coal Hill pours a cloudy copper with an ample eggshell head which receded into a light blanket of suds that left a good amount of lacing. The cloudiness stood in the way of seeing the amount of carbonation, but viewed from above it was steady. The aroma was of grain and grassy hops with some floral notes. The taste was more grassy and floral hops up front with some citrus behind. Oak with some spice complimented the caramel malt flavor on the finish. Lively carbonation and a crisply dry finish kept me wanting another sip of this light bodied lager. Highly drinkable with a healthy dose of complexity, this is a beer that I will seek out again.
