The Northfielder is a crisp, refreshing Pilsner-style lager from The Brewery at Four Star Farms in Northfield, MA, known for its bright, herbal spice and balanced, bready malt flavors from single-malt German Pilsner malt and Mt. Rainier hops, offering a light body with clean, crisp drinkability and significant farm-to-glass connection.

Flavor Profile: Light, bready malts with notes of honey, bread, and subtle herbal spice from Mt. Rainier hops, leading to a crisp, clean finish.

Malt: Brewed with just German Pilsner malt.

Hops: Uses their own farm-grown Mt. Rainier hops for bitterness and aroma.

Larger, white head. It recedes quickly but in a rocky fashion. There are splotches of lace left behind on the glass. Subsequently, there's little lacing after the initial head. The liquid is straw to bright gold color and clear.

Clean, all-malt aroma. Crisp and true to the Helles expecctations with nearly no hop smell.

Smooth mouthfeel due to the lower carbonation level. The body feels richer than the typical Helles (which I like). There's a decent amount of unexpected bitterness. Still this is a (pale) malt forward beer. Overall, I'd love to try this blindly against the traditional Munich offerings. Not only do I think it holds its own, I think it would beat some of them.

The Brewery At Four Star Farms Lager - Pale

Clear gold classic pils look. Sour grasses and tangy wheat, corn and herbal mix flavor's are all over the place. Mt. Rainier hops are spicy and green. Light bready malt with soft pepper and toast all seems very in depth and complex, especially in the malt

From a 16oz can, undated. Purchased at the brewery 09/12/21. Served in a willi becher pub glass.

Pours a bright, crystalline honey-gold with two fingers pouffy white suds. Retention is very good, leaving a puffed foam cap and scattered wads of gobby lacing.

Aroma is mildly spicy and lightly sweet, soft and bready.

Taste is spicier than the nose and less sweet. Bread dough and white pepper, ginger, lemon rind, medicinal herb and grassy bitterness. Starts sweet, bright and spicy, finishes tart, tangy and spicy.

Feel is clean, crisp and quenching right up front, medium-full bodied with bright, tingly carbonation. A sort of doughy gumminess builds on the palate over time but doesn’t hugely detract.

Overall, really good stuff! Drinks way bigger than its stated 4.5% abv, totally in a good way. Note: this label is currently described by the brewer as a ‘pilsner style lager.’

Poured from a 16 oz undated can, to be fair picked up at the new brewery on opening weekend.
A - Golden straw color, slight haze but wonderful clarity, carbontion is determined and relentless. The proof is a wonderful full 1/2" steady white cap.
S - Pilsner malts full on display, Warm bread rising, matched with a lovely grassy hops with a bit of lemon verbana.
T - Follows the nose well, Cold, the hops have the forground, with a quick warm the pilsner malts are exquisite.
M - Light in body, crisp on the palate, the carbonation cleans up quickly. Linger is semi sweet and dry
O - A very good start from a new brewery, to be clear the brewer is a local staple in the area for years. Excellent lager with the nuiance a solid lager needs on full display
