Brewed to celebrate the 2024 Total Eclipse, this near black Belgian-style ale has aromas of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. The rich flavor includes notes of dark fruit and a dry finish.

Had on tap at Brewery Ardennes; then bottle cellared about 10 weeks. Bottle had crisper carbonation, but still attractive. Draft pour had a huge creamy light tan head in a fluted glass. Bottle poured in their BA snifter. Same attractive light tan on dark/black some rich dark brown to light. Head released full, but not as creamy and dissipated much more quickly. Draft had very good lacing. Bottle no lacing, partial smear of foam on surface with thin halo. Draft and perhaps diff glass won again.
Nose was subdued on both. Bottle was not as pronounced with chocolate and roast as draft pour I had last April.
Taste in both is a true Belgian-style stout/dark ale. Love the full malty dark ale/ dark fruit integration into the medium roast big stout (9.0%). Delicious.
Both very smooth nice malty body.
Overall, and this is nitpicking…I liked their original Belgian Stout on tap @ 2022. Really enjoyed the fresh draft version of Obscure at the Brewery. This bottled Obscure seemed to have lost a bit of its character bottled and cellared for a fairly short time.
Obscure is a very good brew. BA continues to produce really well crafted brews. Their stouts have
