Pherm Brewing Co. "Forbin"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Claymont, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: What do we have here? It's an IPA at 6.5% ABV with Mosaic, Idaho 7, Citra, and El Dorado hops. Sounds good, but what is it really? It's poured a lightly hazy amber colored body beneath a thumb's width of off-white foam. So it's not a hazy? Not an NEIPA? How can that be? (I'm just kidding). The aroma is exactly what you'd expect it to be with more pine and less berries. It's citrusy, a touch peachy, and definitely piney; where is that coming from? I guess it must be the Idaho 7. On to the taste then, it's quite assertive - this really is an IPA! The malt is sweetish, caramelish, and bready; threaded through with notes of pine, flowers, apricot, orange, peach, grapefruit, and papaya. A solid bitterness balances it and brings it to a dry conclusion with some pine, earthiness, and black tea lingering. The only thing I'm not finding here are the Mosaics, which is fine. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the lighter side and gently crisp. The head has dropped but it's left thin, fairly solid sheets of lace about the glass. All in all I have to say that they've done a very good job with this. The malt works with the hop flavors, it's nicely balanced in terms of bitterness, and it's got a good mouthfeel and appearance. I'm going to have to look for more beers from these guys.

Draft pour into a pint glass.
Appearance is rich semi-clear orange with soapy head with good retention and good lacing. Nose and palate is citrus, pine, and faint pineapple. Mouthfeel is crisp, clean, and pleasantly prickly.

Appearance: Clear amber, average size off white head, good lacing.
Aroma: Bitter hops hold the line. Think West Coast; not overly fruity except for citrus.
Taste: Still reveling in the hop profile. Malts back things up while heading to the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Well carbonated, medium bodied, with a lingering finish.
Overall: Enjoyed fresh on tap at Oscars Alehouse, along with good food and good service.
