Growler from a traveling friend. Pours flat dark brown (almost black) with a medium thin light brown head with fair retention. Stringy lacing. The aroma is all hazelnut and peanut brittle, very unique. Medium body and smooth with hazelnut being the dominant flavor. Other flavors like malt, pecan and coffee are present as well. The finish is chocolatey and nutty and lingering. Overall this beer definitely stands apart from other Stouts with the amount of hazelnut. While I doubt I would enjoy drinking it all night I liked it just fine as a pint.

Sampled on-cask at the Church Brew Works, Pittsburgh, PA. Served in a nonic pint glass.
A: Deep, dark brown in color, hinging on black towards the bottom. A fluffy, thick layer of brownish head sits atop the beer and settles slowly. Hardly any carbonation visible.
S: A sweetish, hazelnut scent hits the nose at first and lingers. There's also an odd yeasty/sugar scent that is mildly off-putting. Concentrated sniffs reveal a caramelish scent, as well.
T: Sweet and malty from start to finish. The hazelnut flavor shows up early and lingers thru to the finish, then seems to regain strength when the caramel malts are more prevalent, too. It seems like the hazelnut taste could be supported better by a variety of malt tastes, but as it is, the taste stands out by itself without any backup. Certainly not unpleasant, but unless you're really into hazelnut by itself, you might be a little disappointed.
M: Smooth at first, and leads to a creamy finish. Somewhat sweet yet drying in the aftertaste. Slightly watery in the middle for such a thick-appearing beer.
D: Not bad, although I wish I drank this with dessert, instead of before my meal. The only thing that got to me was the smell, which would make having more than one of these tough for me.
Overall, a unique tasting stout, a flavor that I haven't tasted in beer before. If hazelnut is your thing, go for it, but if not, I'd only investigate if you're truly curious.
