On tap at the brewpub on 12/26/08.
I had this under this beer's new name of Rudolph's Revenge.
Pours a very dark brown/black with thin creamy head of mocha colored tan foam. Retains around the edges with some thin spotty lacing. The aroma is a lively, but unforunately rather subdued, mix of pumpkin pie spices, light chocolate malts, and a touch of green pumpkin and floral hops.
The taste fairs a little better with some light roasted chocolate malts, sticky caramel and lactic sweetness, and a flush of clove and cinnamon towards the back. Finishes sweet and spicy. The mouthfeel is medium bodied up front but then thins out a bit towards the back. Not quite a watery feel but this could definitley gone a little deeper.
Well nothing says the Holidays, like a good old fashioned Pumpkin Stout right? WTF? Anyway, this was OK. A bit more in the aroma and body department would have been welcome but this went fine with my meal.
Of note, this was listed as being on cask but it was obviously served on draft. A shame, as cask conditioning might have added a nice dimension to this.

Served on cask at Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, PA on 11/26/07.
A - Opaque black body with some very subtle deep red and violet hues and just a sliver of a light brown head that fully diminished halfway through. Served from the cask, so carbonation was virtually non-existent.
S - Very nice malty nose with hints of chocolate and molasses as well as more obvious cinnamon and nutmeg notes.
T - Moderately sweet at first with a sweet, somewhat spicy flavor as it rolls back into the throat. Finishes with cinnamon and nutmeg spices and some malty sweetness to balance the spicy aspects.
M - Medium bodied creamy stout that was just a tad watery on the palate.
D - This was a very interesting take on a stout. Definitely more subtle than many pumpkin ales out there. Nice blend of malts and spices and virtually no hop bitterness.

This cask beer poured a very thick dark brown with a huge milkshake-thick and creamy tan head. The waterfall was amazing.
The smell was a wonderful mix of pumpkin and spice, mild malt and mild citrus zest.
Allspice, cinnamon, cirus zest, pumpkin, and a myriad of other spices mix with vanilla and sweet malts to form a fantastic taste.
The MF was very full-bodied, with a very thick and sweet feeling up front, and a great tongue-coating warm aftertaste. Unfortunately (and I know this is indicative of the style), the beer was poured rather warm, and a beer this thick and heavy served warm was hard to handle in an imperial pint glass.
Overall very interesting and tasty; hats off to CBW.
