This beer is based on a hefty American-style Pale Ale. You'll detect some sweet caramel maltiness as soon as the beer touches your lips. That maltiness immediately yields to a nice spicy hoppiness, however the sweetness remains throughout the drink. The black pepper blends with the hops into the finish and beyond. Long after you have swallowed the beer, you'll notice the residual black pepper. This beer may change in character over the course of the next few weeks. In the serving tank, it has been "dry-hopped" with an additional pound of peppercorns so the pepper flavor should become a bit more intense as time goes by..

Before I start my review, I have to say that the description here is spot on and it basically matches my own.

A dark copper colored body with a small off-white head. Not too much retention or lacing.

The aroma is mostly dominated by sweet caramel malts, but hops and a slight peppery flavor are also noticeable.

The first flavor that comes through is a good caramel sweetness that is followed by a slightly bitter, citrusy hop profile. The hops segway nicely to a black peppery flavor. Toward the finish the black pepper becomes stronger, and the black pepper is especially strong in the aftertaste.

Light body with moderate carbonation. Very dry and peppery finish.

This beer is pretty drinkable. The clear pepper flavor meshes with the hops very well, and on its own is very nice also. Today I had two beers at the Church Brew Works, and both were pretty good.
