On tap at Carson Street Deli.
Finger of soft white head that drops but still covers, over hazy dark amber body.
Smells of tart apple, not too strong, a little bread crust, even caramel, some lemon.
Tastes of sweet apple in front, turns a little tart & dry, like apple skins. Some grainy flavor that ends with a little sweet/tart balance. Slight cherry. Flavor kind of faint overall.
Light-bodied, just a kiss of tartness.
Not bad, wasn't sure what to expect as I've never encountered a style like this. Could use some more body but otherwise enjoyable, a good introduction to the world of sours.
***More editorial: This is definitely not a Flanders Red, as I'm pretty sure it's not made with acetobacter & lacks a lot of the wine & vinegar characteristics, & isn't barrel-aged. I'd say it's closest to a Berliner weisse because of its use of a sour mash, but even still is pretty far afield of that. So don't expect a Flanders Red if you get your hands on this.

Rust brown and cloudy, some reddish hues. Thin cap of off-white head. 3.0
Slightly soured toasted grains. A little earthy and with a hint of dish detergent. 3.0
Sour mash is such a perfect label. Soured grains are the full story here. No upfront lactic or Bretty character taking away from the malt composition. Slightly metallic and with toastiness, apple, and light caramel. Slight tug from some all-but-absent earthy hops. Not bad-tasting, at all, but criminal to call this a Flanders Red Ale. 3.0
A little thinner than milky in feel. Nice carb. Easy drankin'. 3.5
I'm over-rating this overall because I think it's a delicious brew and I'm tired of continuing to review it to style. I find it hard that it was Church Brew Works' original intention to brew a Flemish Ale. Call it an Amber/Red Ale or maybe an English Mild and it would deserve above-average remarks. 3.5

A-cloudy fake honey colored with a thick cream colored head
S-creamy funk with a hint of...chlorine. slightly lemony. mostly faint
T-comes in with a watery taste of lemon juice, tonic, and dish water. its actually not a terrible taste. the after-taste is more nutty and grainy.
M-watery with watery finish
O-tastes like what would happen if a macro tried brewing a sour. its not a good sour at all. its not a terrible beer though i wouldn't recommend it. just very artificial tasting.
