16-ounce can, no canning date. Enjoyed in a nonic half-pint glass.
Look:
The color is a beautiful crystal clear deep gold. It's topped with a disc of dense white foam that vanishes in about a minute and leaves no trace.
Smell:
Sweet, bready malt with spicy, herbal hops. There is also a hint of dry white wine and a tiny bit of sulfur in there too.
Taste:
Starts with good clean malt flavor that isn't as sweet as the nose suggests, and not as toasty as I'd hope for in an Export-style lager. A slight fruity tang through the middle leads to a swell of floral and herbal hops in the finish. Bitterness is impressive, and lingers with bready malt in a lengthy aftertaste. Alcohol flavor and bite are unexpectedly obtrusive for an ABV of 5.2%.
Feel:
Light body with brisk carbonation. Not bad, but not as soft as the best examples of the style.
Overall:
Radiant Beer Co. Recommission is a decent lager that finishes with a good hop punch. It doesn't really have any strikes against it, but it could use some finesse in the aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel. While Recommission wouldn't be my first choice if I wanted to drink a German-style lager, I'd be happy to try this one again.
