An introspective journey into the psyche of the New Zealand Pilsner informed a contemplative conclusion: Riwaka is the salve for the soul. This 5% hoppy Pils lets this beloved Kiwi hop speak its mind, and we’re reading an easy-drinking but complex lager that warrants meditation with each sip. Aromas of pineapple, grapefruit, and light papaya surround whiffs of mild bready pils malt amidst ultra clean fermentation. Upon further ponderation, flavors reminiscent of skin contact Gewurtz brood beyond heady notes of fresh lychee, kaffir lime, and a hint of pepper. Come harvest the garden of the mind.

I am not sure this beer fits into a single style. It is labeled a Pils but the hoppiness and bitterness are much closer to a West Coast IPA. The aroma is quite herbal/dank/funky and the flavor modulates between bitter, hoppy, and herbal.

Clear golden amber color with plenty of foam in the Trappistes Rochefort chalice. Inviting aroma of melon and lime-lime soda. Quite prickly with carbonation and a light body. Some brief malty flavors and then a lot of grapefruit. Rather light but clean and crisp with a distinct bitter aftertaste. This would be elegant with a lighter touch on the hops. From the 16 oz can purchased at O'Shea's Brewing.

I suppose experimentation is more-so for like, your college years and stuff. Yeah, for someone like Becky Sue; a country girl who grew up in a small town next to a corn field. And because Becky didn’t have a lot to do during her early years in her Billy Bob tpwn, well, she went experimental crazy when she finally got to her states university. You know, going vegan and not wearing deodorant and stuff (what kind of experimental were you thinking? Hehe). For real though… sometimes I think that I should just stick to beer that I know. It’s not that this beer is terrible, but it’s NASA when they go: “3, 2, 1” but the rocket doesn’t launch. Ok, that’s enough.

Try and get in where you fit in, my children.

With regards to the hoppy lager trend, this is amongst, if not the best I've had yet.

Clear & light yellow. Short-lived fizzy head that recedes to a thin ring with a tiny amount of lacing. Aroma is bright and clearly reflects the Riwaka. There's a clear, lemon cleaner scent that dominates the aroma. Taste largely follows the nose. It's a bit of a weird beer. Definitely not a classic Pils. I can't get the thought out of my head that I'm drinking something infused with lemon scented cleaner. I know I'm not, but that's what my brain is thinking. Feel is slightly under carbonated, but not too off base. Interesting / different beer. I'm mostly struggling with the PIls designation.
