Collaboration with Highland Park Brewery
It's a dance party for your mind and your mouth, and while this collab may not be one that actually happens all the time, it's one we certainly enjoyed making with Citra, Nelson Sauvin & HBC 630 hops, and present company.

Sent my way as part of a ninja strike from @2beerdogs during NBS BIF #16.
Pours a lovely crisp clear light golden colour, like childhood apple juice. Wet bubbles top the liquid before quickly receding to a light ring around the rim. No lacing.
Nose transports me back about 5 or 10 years with nondescript but inviting aromas of honey sweet malts layered under lightly sweet, earthy hops with a touch of spice.
Flavour gives much the same impression. THe malts are a little bit toastier underneath, like a good honey/seed brown bread lightly toasted, and I feel like describing the malts makes it seem like they have a prominent role in this beer, which they do not. They are wonderfully supportive underneath the hops, and that's just a characteristic that I feel has gone somewhat by the wayside in the modern meta, and which is a welcome return to tradition here.
Anyway, it's an IPA, and it doesn't shy from that fact. I could have told you there was citra in there even before looking at the can to confirm. Faint sweetness, but a good burst of earthy spicy hops that trend a little more citrus-like towards the end, before culminating in a bold/dull bitter finish that lingers nicely.
Really what it boils down to is this is a nice nod back to the previous generation of IPAs, and it's an era I miss, personally. It isn't necessarily a blow-you-away example of that style, but it's a welcome return to a time and place that's all too hard to reach anymore.
Thanks, Derek for sending this my direction!
