they were just calling this hefeweizen when i was in, and had it listed on their beer menu at 5.3% abv, but im assuming its the same beer, unlikely these guys have made multiple hefe types, and its a fine beer, a bit american in the way that the yeast dominates and is predictable and on the edge of pheonlic, but also appealing because we all kind of grew up on this kind of take on the style rather than the more authentic actually bavarian ones, which are so much more nuanced and refined than many in the states, but i still have a soft spot for beer like this. blonde and lightly hazy, fizzy in the glass even without a big head or anything. lemon zest and white pepper in the nose, summery and upbeat, lemon lime soda pop, clove, coriander, tangy tomatillo or something hebral kind of but fruity still, green pear, dish detergent, appreciable wheat malt which is important in these too so glad thats there, and the flavor is similar, all yeast up top, high tone and with hints of orange, sage, lemon hard candy, and soap, but its floral and springy too, just maybe fermented a tad warmer than the ideal place, at least for my palate. i like the grounding wheat though, ever so slightly nutty, and this doesnt stay spicy or anything on the palate. a bit over the top, especially at temperature, but cooler its pleasant and it does have a sweet spot. not a work of mastery or anything, but i can see the appeal, and i enjoyed this one even with its somewhat amateurish edges...
