i tried every beer they had in here when i visited, and came away pretty mixed on what they have going, but this amber stood out as both excellent and unique enough to not be lost in a samey style space, flavorful, off dry, rich for being as low in abv as it is, and a rather versatile food beer too, one of their best i had. a nice deep muted brick red color with a short but lasting just off white head. a nice bready aroma, complex but not decadent and sugary, hints of maple, bread crusts, toasted walnut, and light oak even, earthy and autumnal without being heavy, subtle fermentation character that works in its favor, and the flavor is similar, toffee and light caramelization but not overtly sweet, baked bread and some coziness that comes with that, a little astringency later as it warms but it works, almost english for a flash, and there is some mellow grain nuance in here that makes it distinctive, light hops very late, soft medium body, fine carbonation, each sip politely asks for another, a hint of birch as it warms, some mineral character, nice beer overall, no frills and not trying too hard, but also not at all generic, a nice place to be in this style...
