a rad imperial red ipa, one of the best beers in this place, done in collaboration with 210 brewing, the only other native owned brewery in washington, cool of them to get together, and the result is splendid, in part because the base red ale is really good, but the hops are well selected, and this one is real successful overall. a little cloudiness to this, real deep red, some viscosity but it doesnt look huge, airy tan head on top, some longer legs and this does have quite a bit of sweetness overall, frothy lace, nice looking brew. the aroma is woody, wintery, strong, rich, and sort of leathery and earthy, some concentrated long boiled intensity and depth, graham cracker and honey, maple too, dried apricot to me which is unique, and then the pine resin and candied orange character of the hops, some spice there too, freshness apparent, a subtle yeast element that isnt out of place, hearty and warming, into it! nice toasted character in the flavor, dark brown sugar, pine, bran, grapefruit pith, clementine, weed, bread pudding, christmas tree, some alcohol, this is wintery all the way, sticky in the right places, bitter at the end but with nice balance, drinkable for what it is, lots of flow and change and movement as it drinks and warms, hearty and filling in the way i want something like this to be. very solid.
