#1737 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Pours black, not a photon gets through this one. 2mm deep tan head, not sticking around presumably due to the ABV% vs surface tension to retain foam (ie no surprise). One of those beers that pours silently, you can raise the bottle 10Cm from the beer in the glass and still ... not a single splash... that's heft+ABV%.
S- BIG coffee and some dark pungent cocoa with a liquor note wafting about over all of this. Smells divine.
T- BOOF! The taste is a remarkable replay of the smell, I shan't just repeat it. Now I also register the hints of vanilla coming through.
F- Where do you start? The overall profile is massive. There is no understatement here despite which there is balance and nothing over-shouts out of line/balance. as it warms a touch I suddenly begin to register the whisky barrel note, also BIG, and I wonder how I didn't notice it before...
O- This is a full-on slow-sippin' winter-warmer type beer. Deeply intense and pungent and yet never crossing a line. A 500ml bottle might be nice to share as it's pretty mega. I'll also note that as it warms - I opened this say 15mins ago, and am 1/3rd-1/2 way through, the whisky note is growing in prominence. Fascinating, inventive, accomplished, different, memorable - yep, quite a wow of a brew.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed!
500ml bottle £8.75 Bottled: 29/09/2020 etched into base of bottle. Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
