Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces very nicely.
S: Juicy citrus, Nelson gooseberry and white grape, tropical and stone fruit, light floral notes, a touch of Southern Hem diesel and dank herbal notes, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: The Nelson jumps out up front with Southern Hem diesel, gooseberry, and white grape, plus some dank herbal notes, quickly followed by a mix of citrus, tropical and stone fruit, lemon lime, ripe tangerine, papaya, guava, peach, apricot, pineapple, mango, melon, and passion fruit, a little floral, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, fairly soft on the palate.
O: First things first, I think we can throw out the West Coast part of the description as this looks and drinks like a juicy NEIPA. In that context, it's pretty solid. I was expecting a bit more bright zesty citrus from the Riwaka and Motueka, but it comes off more candied, which, combined with all the tropical fruit they pulled out, all plays nicely off the Nelson contribution. I think they could dial the sweetness back just a touch to help balance things out and make it more dry as the name implies, but as it stands it's a very drinkable hazy with some nice Southern Hem character.
Revisited a few weeks later and the danker side you would expect from a 4/20 release comes through way more than it did fresh. Maybe it just needed a little extra time to come together.
