Last year of suggested date, let’s see how this evolved.
Slightly hazy dark amber reddish color with a thick beige head with medium retention.
Aroma with notes of Cointreau orange liquor, mild booze, caramel, apple puree and crystalized fruits.
Sweet flavor with notes of Cointreau orange liquor, banana flambé, honey, apricots, overripe plum, herbal hops, some cinnamon, cloves and ginger, watermelon candy, malt extract, sweet nuts and a bit of green apples.
Dry, bitter and a bit alcoholic aftertaste. I was under the impression than it is hoppier than it seems given its huge malty base to back this up. I wonder how different it would be a fresh exemplar.
Liquorish full body with mild carbonation. Alcohol of 12% is there but relatively very well disguised.
Great fruit complexity, ripened not fresh. I also had the impression to be drinking some sort of a beer reduction. More round than the regular Ambrée version, probably given the longer laggering and re-fermentation. A bit overly sweet, but it should work well as an aperitif.

On tap at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood, CA.

Pours a murky light orange with a foamy beige head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, spice, and some fruity aromas. Taste is of much the same with an alcohol kick after each sip. There is a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is pretty easy to drink due to its solid aromas and flavors.

Picked up on a recent trip to Brussels. The bartender had several bottles stashed away in the cellar and gave it to me for free!
A: amber, cloudy, pretty head dissipates quickly
S: fresh, inviting
T: slightly sweet, slightly hoppy
M: champagne-like, with a little sting from the 12 percent alcohol
D: I'm only halfway through the bottle and feeling its effects. If you're planning to drink it slowly it's highly drinkable!

Bomber best before 2013.Pours cloudy golden, edges of amber, very much thick lace. The taste, with a smooth mouthfeel, is overiden with booze. A sweetish aftertaste, its better than vodka, but has much in common with it. Read on.The aroma is yeast, but mostly booze. Seems more like 20% plus, an entry into the big beers bragging rights. Alcohol warming of the tongue and cheeks. A quarter of the bomber, and then noone would share.
