Had Gest at Elsewhere brewpub, Atlanta, on Mlíko pour from side-pull tap into 19-oz. rounded seidel, and later poured from pint can, no date, into Tübinger Kugel.
Pours apparently black but deep amber-red at edges when backlit, with 1-finger tan head, with good retention, pulling Belgian lace down the glass. Moderate aromas of mild dark malts and mild roast malts off pour, with aromas of dark fruit soon joining, and growing into balance as warms. Begins sweet and fruity, then a little hop bite and sweet chocolate join, and lead into mild roast malts over a creamy malt body before a rather crisp, noble hop finish.
The ingredient list and brewing techniques show Elsewhere's intent to brew a true-to-style Czech Dark Lager, and a comparison of the result with the style guidelines confirms its success. Do not miss a chance for a milk pour at Elsewhere.

Thanks to my brother Mark, who lives in Atlanta, for getting me some beers from this brewery. Poured out of a 12 oz can into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a dark brown color with an excellent deep amber/ruby glow when the light hits it. Has a fluffy looking, off-white, tan head that's well over an inch when poured that settles fairly quickly to a pretty thick ring lining the inside of the glass and some cluster swirls of film layer surface foam. Excellent lacing here too. Aromas of roasted, bready malts w/ nice hints of caramel and chocolate that's followed by some dark fruit notes of fig plum, and cherry. This is rounded out with a bit of earthy and just slightly piney and floral hop notes. The taste pretty much follows suit, with roasted, bready malts w/ nice hints of caramel and dark chocolate. A hint of rye spice and the aforementioned dark fruit notes of fig, plum, and cherry. The fruit notes come out more as the beer sits and warms a bit and the somewhat astringent roasted bitterness notes diminish a bit. Becomes better balanced as it warms up a bit. Has a crisp, slightly chewy and oily and sticky/syrupy/resinous, also somehow fairly smooth medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. A nice beer all around here. Glad I got a chance to drink and review this.
