Bere Helles Style Lager - #56
For the Autumn 2021 offering, we brewed a Helles style lager to showcase the delicious and unique character of the grains themselves. Helles is a light, aromatic style of lager, very similar to Pilsner, but less hoppy, and infinitely drinkable.
Bere brings a substantial, round midpalate, a pleasing delicacy, and a balancing richness to this light and refreshing style of beer. The aromatics are yellow-fruited and distinct, fresh sweet corn and fragrant cereal grains, vibrant and lightly herbal, with subtle earthy elements reminiscent of conifer forest. The finish is crisp, mineral, and exceptionally long.
We are honored to be stewards of this ancient, rare, and very special grain.

Very long lasting and thick white head. Crystal clear, pure light gold look. Slight fermented grain aroma, with a touch of yeastiness. Clean, malty flavor with a little floral hop tinge that carries to the finish. Good, ample mouthfeel. This is enjoyable and well made.

Very clear, light gold body with excellent carbonation; thick, sculpted white head; dense and creamy in texture. An incredible nose; rich toasted grain smell; light esters waft through the air. Fantastic flavor; toasted grain; ever so slight caramel and honey note; moderate hop bitterness nicely rounding out the taste; Medium body; warm and smooth.
This is the best of four Hanabi beer varieties I've had the pleasure of trying. Well-rounded with a rich, complex symphony of subtle flavors. The looks, smell, and mouthfeel also are well-crafted. Simply a gorgeous beer.

Pours a super clean, clear pale gold color, with a very active, tight head that emerges very quickly with an aggressive pour. Do I smell.. Belgium?
This beer is wild. So much Belgian influence on the nose. Almost saison / session tripel with the light fruity aromas, and spicy yeast esters. Like pulling freshly baked brown bread out of the oven, but still refreshing. We’re off to an interesting start.
Flavor gets a bit more “lagerish”, with light amber grain sweetness, bready malt, slight saison spice, and a crackery, earthy finish. Oooh, boy. This is a unique beer, and I love the out-of-the-box approach to a common, uninspired style. Not sure it was worth the money, because how could a lager be that amazing, but I am very intrigued by the craftsmanship.
