Bohemian Pilsner Style Lager Beer - #86
The Grain
Our latest release is a Bohemian-style Pilsner, brewed as a salute to the original pale lager and the beer revolution that it sparked. We used a classic variety of barley called Bojos (pronounced boh-yos) sourced from Pivovar Ferdinand, an old-fashioned combined brewery and malthouse near Prague, which is a rarity these days! Historically, brewers sourced their own grains directly from farmers, malted them in-house, and then brewed with them, whereas today the tasks of brewing and malting are often segregated into specialized companies. Thanks to this integrated approach, Pivovar Ferdinand is producing some of the most delicious malted barley that we’ve worked with.
Bohemian-style Pilsner from this particular barley is one of our favorite beers to make and drink, and one that we come back to again and again, constantly honing and fine tuning our approach to it. We use it as a benchmark to contextualize many of the other grain varieties that we work with.
The Beer
Our Winter 2021 offering is a classic example of the pleasures that the Pilsner style can afford: an inviting richness and palate weight that is balanced by a vibrant freshness and long, lifted finish. Bright cereal grains dominate the aromas, with an herbal mintiness from the hops, and a wet stones minerality that brings focus.
A comforting beer for winter, this batch of Hanabi Lager brings a sense of brightness and cheer for the good things to come.

Light golden amber body; fine carbonation, dense and rapidly rising; nice head, white and frothy. Outstanding aroma; toasted wheat and cracker. The taste also exudes toasted wheat with a light, earthy sweetness and light to moderate hop bitterness. Medium body; crisp; nice malt warmth.
Another enjoyable lager from Hanabi. Balanced and complex with a fantastic rich graininess to the smell and taste.
Pouring temperature: 46 °F; bottling data: nothing specific other than being released for Winter 2021.
