Our Winter 2023 Hanabi Lager features a locally grown Californian barley named Feldblume, from Bob Schaupp’s farm near Woodland. This grain is an integral part of a brewing-grains renaissance happening right here in California, where local small farms are working to grow special varieties of barley, wheat, oats, and rye that surpass the norm in terms of flavor and character. A key local partner, Admiral Maltings, skillfully coaxes these delicious seeds to life and prepares them for brewing by first sprouting, and then lightly toasting them.

Brewed as a Pilsner style beer, Feldblume barley brings notes of local tree herbs (eucalyptus, bay, and pine), dried meadow flowers, peppermint, candied orange peel, and wet crushed shale.
