Served in a goblet. What, has malt liquor gone upscale? I was expecting a paper bag!

A-Cloudy golden yellow with a thin white head. Reduced to a ring and left spotty lacing.

S-A bit bland here..light corn with a bit of alcohol fusels. A touch of sweet malt accents the corn.

T-Nothing crazy here. Sweet corn and very light sweet malt flavours with a nice drying finish.

M-Medium-light body and very smooth. Not overly carbonated and nice dry finish.

D-Nice...not one I would clamor for multiple pints of but...for one or two I could see enjoying this with a burger or pizza. A fun take on American classic swill. Well done with just enough flavour to keep your interest but enough smoothness to make it go down easy.

I had this on tap at Iron Hill, served in a goblet.
A - Golden hued w/ very little head to speak of, the clarity is excellent

S - slightly corny nose w/ mild alcohol aroma as expected when informed of the style - slightly sweet maltiness accents the adjunct aroma

M - a feel that is light for the strength which is the idea behind the style anyway, but very smooth compared to what you expect from a Malt liquor fully carbonated and dry finishing

T - I must say I didn't expect a lot when Paul the Head brewer explained the beer I had ordered, however I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. It definitely has a corn flavor, but not cooked corn or DMS, just sweet corn and very light malt flavors w/ a dry pils type effect with stripped down bare bones essence. There is no real hop flavor to speak of, but the alcohol becomes noticeable after 12oz.

D - I couldn't see repeated glasses of this unless you were on a mission, but I certainly was caught off guard by its drinkability. It does taste like more than 7%, but it is the best malt liquor I have ever tasted for sure.

I enjoyed this on tap at Iron Hill - Lancaster on Saturday, July 19, from a standard pint glass.

The appearance is is gold and inviting. Unlike other brands of the malt liquor style, there is no yellow to speak of, just a warm golden hue. The frothy one-finger head is bright white and dissapears quickly, but still maintains a faint enough presence to represent well for a 7% brew.

The smell of Street Legal gives away its true identity. Adjuncts are definitely present, but somewhat pleasant and not typically offensive. A strong malt backbone reveals itself as well in the nose.

The taste is true to style. It is an interesting study to be able to sample an adjunct beer done well. I am a somewhat supporter of Rheinheitsgebot, but I can appreciate the opportunity to calibrate the palate with a brew like this. Similar to the nose, malt dominates, and the lingering taste is definitely corn.

The mouthfeel and drinkability are also in line with the syle. Plus, its at least 92 degrees outside with extremely high humidity, and I mowed a yard an hour ago, so this is quenching my thirst and going down pretty well. In this era of hop bombs and craft extremism, to take the time to create something like this is admirable.

Street Legal is exactly what it claims to be; a well thought out and hand crafted corn adjunct malt liquor.
