This was a special "secret" tap at The Gathering of the Gourds event at Iron Hill West Chester that you had to ask for at the back bar only. This was described by the bartender as a pumpkin ale infused with Brett.
A - Cloudy, hazy pumpkin-colored body with a tinge of copper, reminiscent of unfiltered apple cider and half a finger of bubbly beige head that receded into a patchy film and deposited a modest amount of lacing around the goblet.
S - Mild pumpkin meat and autumn spices mingle with a subtle funky Brett character, the latter of which imparts a mild band-aid and sour fruit/berry aspect.
T - Opens with a mild spicy character suggesting ginger, cinnamon and clove with a hint of pumpkin meat, but then segues into a subtle funky character featuring mild sour Brett notes. Finishes with a hint of sour fruit and earthy bitter notes, but then some sweet caramel malt swoops in with a hint of toasted grains and more pumpkin spices to quell the sour attributes a bit.
M - Medium bodied with an oily texture and subtle carbonation. Slightly spicy with a hint of funky sourness and mild bitterness on the palate.
D - The Funkin was really drinkable for the style, and I found the subtle Brett infusion to work quite well with the pumpkin attributes of this ale. The result was a subtly sour pumpkin ale with a good amount of requisite spiciness, but more of an earthy flair for the style.
