Nitro-tap, served in a pint
(from notes, consumed in early December 09)
Poured a ruddy brown, very dark. Nearly black in color, but turbid to say the least. The nitro always is an added plus to the visual as the light khaki cap steadily rises and settles into a little over a finger.
The initial aroma was a little dull. Hiding in there is a subtle sweetness, coffee grounds, and some baker's chocolate. Some mild char.
The coffee grabs control early with the char and chocolate coming in to join the party, only to relinquish control back to the fresh coffee rounds. Nothing is overly robust or deep, very easygoing flavors that all meld together nicely.
The nitro adds a smooth, lush mouthfeel that makes this guy much more enjoyable. An easy drinker for sure. Worth a pint.

Served in a chalice on nitro tap 11-14-09. Defined as a light bodied version of Baltic porter.
A: Poured a flat black with a rolling turbid brass nature from the nitro that slowly settled from bottom to top with a 1 finger, soft whispy and creamy light toping that displayed extraordinary retention and remained so throughout the entire drink. The lacing was thick and lustrious providing a full sheet coating sticking admirably to the glass walls. A definite eye pleaser.
S: The nose was soft, filled with a very smooth coffee roasted aroma. Light hints of burnt chocolate as well a light earthy bitterness rounds things out.
T: The initial flavor opens with a big helping of coffee roastedness that was forefront and dominant. Soft charred wood with an earthy dry bitterness is also well represented here. Soft touches of chalkiness were detected on the finish as well glimpses of dry bakers chocolate. Overall a hearty Schwarz that provide a deep but smoothly coffee experience.
M: very light from the nitro with a silky smooth texture. Extremely light feel while it effortless slides down with a light coffee lacing. Definitly has that Schwarz feel but is much richer.
D: good, hearty, so one will certainly get the job done. Decent enjoyability, smooth and worth ckecking out.
