Served in a Chalice. Their pig iron porter base aged on whole mexican vanilla beans primed with a sour Montmorency cherry juice from King Orchards. Sampled on location 2/20/10.
A: Poured a dark heresy chocolate brown with a thin, ½ finger creamy, khaki colored head that stuck around quite nicely while leaving a thick full sheet coating behind.
S: The nose is promising with a mixture of fresh cocoa powder and chocolate syrup sweetness. A soft roasted malting adds a nice touch while hints of chocolate milk is strong and dominant lingering about for a finishing trail. Overall was rich with a promising start.
T: My first impression was chocolate milk with a bit of sour twang fruitiness. Vanilla cream with light coffee aspects are mixed in well with a slight traces of a sour fruitiness (both pineapple and cherry). The malting is dark, though smooth in execution and comes off rather sweet with an almost lactose nature which was very intriguing. There is a bit of fresh lemons and wet citrus appeal that comes through briefly after the swallow.
M: The mouthful was light, with an almost silky feel that had a bit of juice like character. Very fluid, smooth with almost no trace of carbonation.
D: Drinkability was good, a very interesting take, that was both dark, sweet, yet intriguing with a juicy sour cherry like quality twang that comes through that keeps you guessing and works surprisingly well here. Two would be my limit here but an interesting and unique take and twist on a style that works rather well enough for a chance or try.
