Served 3-27-10 in a chalice on tap.
A: In the glass appeared burgundy, while against the lighting displayed rustic orange hues with a fair amount of clarity that showed only a single broken carbonation stream that rose at a very slow rate. The head was whipped and frothy, small in statue and short lived leaving a moderate wavy splash for a lacing.
S: A light aroma of caramelized malting is present on the nose along with subtle highlights of whole plums and a dry Belgian candy sweetness.
T: The flavor was spicy with soft fruity tones combined with sweet dried caramel gets this off to a very good start. Light bready notes, juicy plums, apples and sweetened toasted grains give this a very clean flavor. The finish is soft and dry with a presence of dried fruit skins and soft toasted grains.
M: The mouthful was a surprise, with such a low abv 3.9% I was expecting something a bit thinner in character but this is everything but. A medium fullness with a good deal of resistance is experienced when wrestled around on the tongue. Turns creamy and bubbly upon a longer hold.
D: As with the mouthful, drinkability is a pleasant surprise. Clean, and very easy to consume with a gentle 3.9%abv ensures this as session material on par with style. Very likable and growler worthy.
