a: Clear golden copper; served with one finger of thick, stick foam.

s: Grainy nuttiness; bready with some gassy hops.

t: Malt forward for sure. Faintly sweet bread, lightly roasted nuts, and a subdued floral finish.

m: Crisp and smooth.

o: Can't say if its on style or not, I just really liked it.

On tap at Iron Hill Lancaster on 6/18/10.

A - Clear amber body with very nice clarity and a dense, finger's width of foamy off-white head on top that produced bubbly lace that slid down the sides of the glass.

S - Bready aroma... like a big ol' loaf o' bread, actually. Lots of toasted grainy malt character in the nose, which is accompanied by a hint of leafy green hops.

T - The flavor has a very distinct multi-grain bready character with some contrasting floral hop notes out front. While the hops remain fairly restrained throughout, the toasted grainy character really shines. While there is a touch of floral and earthy hop notes, I could be a bit hoppier to balance the intensity of the malt flavor. Nevertheless, this is still quite a tasty steam beer.

M - Medium bodied with kind of a chewy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Finishes with a touch of bitterness on the palate.

D - Solid steam beer, although I feel it could benefit from a slightly more assertive hop presence. The graininess of the malt is undisputable. Overall, this is a tasty, flavorful Cali Common.

On tap @ Iron Hill Lancaster on 6/18/10. Served in a 12 oz Pils glass. Thanks go to Ffej for sharing some of his mug of this with me.

Pours a clear coppery gold, with a finger of bright-white head. This sticks around with a tight 1/4 finger cap that stays sturdy and leaving back some foamy swathes of lacing that stick. The aroma is floral and earthy up front, with some light spice and stiff grains pulling up the middle section, before ending with some sweetness and fruit in the back. This was solid.

The taste has a good bit of flat graininess to it, with some fruity sweetness and dry spiciness pulls up the rear. Hops are moderately aggressive here, leaving earth and lingering dryness in its wake. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some sharpness to it up front, before this gets more bubbly and easy as the feel goes on. Crisp but still smooth is the name of the game here.

Solid take on the California Common here, being flavorful with a smooth body and easy drinkbility about it. I would have liked to have had a touch more hops present but this was overall pretty darn decent.
