On nitro at the brewpub. It appeared with a tall, dark tan cascading head that settled down after a few minutes. I'm not usually a huge fan of stronger stouts, but something about this one called out to me and I'm glad it did.
The roast wasn't overpowering and instead the body held a wonderful maple syrup and toffee candy character up front with espresso and black grains around the edges. It reminds me quite a bit of Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout, but I think I like this beer better. The stout is relatively drinkable, but not cloyingly sweet like many in the export stout style. There's a gentle caramel undertone with chocolate running through the beer and if I had more time, I'd order another glass. Go find this beer.
