On tap at the Lancaster location on 4/8/11.

Served in a sort of tall, shaped pilsner glass. This brew appears a clear, seemingly polished golden yellow color. A cap of off-white creamy head recedes holding close to the glass. Spotty lace forms on the glassware with sips and swirls.

The smell of this brew is quite spicy with hops imparting a bold amount of grassy character with a light mineral touch. Some biscuit-like grain is evident under the spicy hop elements.

This brew tastes very herbal and spicy with bold bitterness for the style. Under the hops is a persistent fresh grainy biscuit malt flavor which provides minimal backing of sweetness. It finishes dry and somewhat crisp with spices lingering.

This is a light bodied offering with a modest level of carbonation. It is fairly easy drinking with a light abv incorporation throughout. Dare I say, this might be the most spicy pilsner I've ever had. And while it pains me to say it, I think some of the hops could be tamed back a little to let more of the typical crisp character I look for in the style be a little more evident.

I had this on-tap at the Lancaster brewpub.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with a finger of foamy white head of which a ring remains at the edge of the glass.

Smell: Fruity and slightly perfumey with some mildly sweet malt. I'm also picking up an herbal quality in the background.

Taste: This isn't as sweet at the smell, but there is more perfume and fruit. The finish is crisp, the only issue I have is a mildly soapy aftertaste. Still very good.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and very mild carbonation. The finish is super dry.

Overall: This isn't one of my favorite stylers, but I'm enjoying this beer a lot. The aftertaste is the only problem I'm having.

A-Bright, clear, golden highlighted straw yellow with a towering, gleaming, eggshell white head that slowly reduced to a thin cap and left nice lace.

S-Spicy floral hops with a hint of lemon zest and an underlying biscuit malt sweetness.

T-Grassy, floral and flowery hop bite up front with an underlying lemon zest zing. Biscuit malt adds a pleasant but not overwhelming sweetness.

M-Medium-light body with a ton of sharp, biting crispness. Soft, mineral like feel in the dry finish.

D-Well, the folks at IH-L add another solid entry into the already impressive and competetive line up of southeast PA Pilseners. A solid, crisp, flavourful yet soft and drinkable brew that hits all of the right notes. As Harry Kalas would have said, "This one is OUTTA HERE"!

On tap at Iron Hill Lancaster on 4/10/11.

A - Pale golden wheat liquid with modest carbonation and a big fluffy bright white head that reduced to spotty, bubbly lace that slid down the sides of the glass.

S - Aroma is kind of muted, although there is a heavy bready and grainy malt presence as well as a hint of lemon zest and grassy hops.

T - Grassy hops with lots of toasted graininess and some citrus characteristics. The hops aren't as bright or as crisp as I was anticipating. Instead, they provide an almost numbing sensation on the palate, giving the hop character an unfortunate dullness, although there is a grassy, herbal bite on the finish.

M - Medium bodied with a somewhat syrupy texture and bright, prickly carbonation. Feels more like an Imperial Pils, although the bitterness is pretty mild in the grand scheme of things. Not overly crisp either, although the bitterness lingers for a bit on the palate.

D - Pretty solid Pilsner here, although I was expecting a bit more crispness and hop flavor (hey, Paul sets the bar pretty high for brewers around here). Still, it was quite tasty and I had no problems finishing an entire mug of this on my own.

a: This was a clear, golden straw color. It was served to me with a chunky white head.

s: Lots of floral, noble hops with a hint of lemon, bready malts, and a bit of something mineral.

t: Very dry and enormously satisfying. Plenty of leafy, flowery noble hops with some mineral and citric qualities with brady malt balance.

m: Crisply carbonated with a very dry finish.

o: Another in a long line of amazing local pilseners. This ranks right up there with the best of them. My 20 ounce mug didn't last long.

I had this on tap at Iron Hill in Lancaster -served chilled in a wheat shaped pint.

a very clear golden straw color with ample frothy white which settles rapidly and has a tight bead. The smell is very fragrant with noble hops -lots of herbal qualities and almost tea-like with some floral accents. The thing I like about the feel is it has a good balance between the hop bitterness and malt with plenty of carbonation and a slightly dry bitter finish.

The hop flavor is very noble -light citrus and floral qualities are there with plenty of pilsner taste and light yeast which gives the hops a dry tinge and the amplifies the bitterness with the toasted malt quality very satisifying flavor-wise with some very mild astringency with slightly lemony accented finish. I feel this is a quality German Pilsner, it fits the style and is worthy of repeat drinking in every way. I am sure this would go with with a nice fatty burger to cleanse the palate with highly carbonated quality.

On tap at the Lancaster location.

The beer pours a solid gold color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is all pils goodness, showing light honey, bread dough, white pepper and ginger. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this fairly dry, deliciously bitter pils. The beer finishes with a crisply bitter wash of flavor. Also, considering the low alcohol, this beer really delivers an impressive amount of flavor.

Very enjoyable. Had planned to drive up to Stoudt's for a glass of their excellent pils, but I found this so satisfying, I didn't see any reason to bother.
