Maple bourbon-barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout, cold-steeped with whole coffee beans. It has a sweetness from the maple syrup, and coffee, chocolate, and vanilla notes.

Bottle purchased from Strangebird Beer in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a very large fluffy head, and lots of lacing. The amount of carbonation on this one looks pretty concerning.
This smells semi-metallic, with some yeasty aromas, and a touch of maple.
The big overcarbonation on this one is problematic - it blocks out any interesting barrel character and coffee that I might have gotten otherwise. I wonder if the yeast used was Belgian or something, or some weird yeast got into the barrel accidentally - this style just should not have the carbonation that this one does. There's a touch of nice maple and chocolate character, but the little complexities that could have made this great are just not there.
This is medium bodied, not creamy enough, and not all that drinkable.
I really wanted to like this. The base stout is so much better than this.
