Double Barrel Bear Fight is a barrel-aged imperial stout. For this beer, we took Bear Fight, our imperial stout, aged it in a bourbon barrel, and then, racked it out of that bourbon barrel and into a freshly-emptied rye barrel. This barrel-aging process took about a year!

Stout flavour comes through, despite near ice temperature on tap at the source. Nvert dark chocolate brown colour. Bourbon taste substantive and grows on me.

On tap at Strangebird Brewery in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells slightly fusel and boozy, with lots of bourbon, and some chocolate.
Even though it smelt quite hot and boozy, that factor doesn’t translate to the taste. This reminds me a bit of something barrel aged from Central Waters – it’s very thin, but it’s got subtle and interesting flavors to it. There’s some rye spice, herbal and oaky bitterness, dark chocolate, coffee, cookie dough, and vanilla.
This is very thin, much thinner than the regular Bear Fight, which has some heft to it. It’s not so thin that it’s unenjoyable, however. There’s a touch of heat on the finish, but nothing as intense as the aroma seemed to promise here.
None of the Bear Fight variants have ever eclipsed the original, but this was very fun to try.
