A good although somewhat estery lager with nice grainy malt flavors and noble hop flavor. The head looks great at first but quickly dies away, the nose is too fruity for the style in my opinion, but overall it tastes good and is a great local option for cooking up some brats.

Picked up on my recent Montana trip... Pours crystal clear golden with a short lived sudsy white head.... Very clean and grainy and expected lightly sweet with some grassy hops... Very drinkable... Perfect while grilling and waiting for the Billings heat to give way to the evening.

A fairly aggressive pour from a longneck into a shaker produces about 1/2 inch of short-lived head. A very thin veneer of lace is maintained by the fairly high carbonation. The beer is a distinctly hazy yellowish-gold color.

I get some noble hop aromas, but also quite a bit of ale-like esters. The flavor is also rather estery-fruity, with notes suggestive of apple, pear, and/or pineapple. These flavors are nicely balanced with and earthy and slightly floral bitterness. It has a nice snappy bite on the finish and has a rather creamy mouth feel.

This reminds me very much of a cream ale I tried at a local brewery. It is light, but with a fruitiness suggestive more of ale than lager. Nevertheless, it is pretty tasty and easy enough to drink.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head fades super-fast leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer strongest of a bready smell mixed with some notes of grape juice and other light fruits with a bit of some grain. A very light level of a yeasty smell is there as well, overall giving a rather sweet, but nice aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter caramel and bready taste with some flavors of a light fruit nature right from the start. As the taste advances more fruit comes to the tongue with apple and grape being the predominant, but others of peach and apricot there as well. While smoother in its bready flavor upfront, more graininess comes to the tongue, with the sweeter flavors fading just a tad. A hint of a grassy taste come to the tongue at the end, leaving a decently sweet but smooth flavor to linger.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly higher side. For the lager style it is rather nice, especially in light of the sweeter nature of the brew, and makes for a very sweet, but balanced and flavorful lager.

Overall – This I found rather enjoyable. It was very easy drinking, somewhat fruity, and rather balanced overall. A nice more summer like style brew in my opinion.

newer one from bayern. this is a little sweeter and a little bigger than the helles lagers we are all used to. its got a bit more grain going on, both in size and color, and it holds a nice white head and perky carbonation underneath. the nose shows some brown sugar sweetness, uncommon in a bright lager but also seemingly appropriate. the flavor has the lager yeast up front, which is cool, and allows the finish to be a little more cereal forward and much longer than the snappy german ones. grainy and patient. i like its quirks, but i like helles to be a style i can drink a ton of, and this gets me after maybe three, four tops, and even thats pushing it a little bit. bigger isnt always better, but in the context of the oncoming montana fall, i think it works really well. bayern does some neat stuff that they dont get enough credit for, and an ice cold bottle of this beer has a lot of value. the montana beer scene is exploding, and these guys are a big part of it. i like this one, and think its a real good value too.
