Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Date on label is disconcerting, because it indicates this beer is best before May of 2016. Difficult to believe the beer is this old.
A little cloudy in the body, with a straw/gold color. Minimal fizzy head quickly disappears. No lacing.
Strong malt aroma, with floral hops.
Taste is heavy with the bready malt, with additions of spicy hops. Slightly sweet all around.
Thin to medium mouth feel. Okay carbonation.
I wish the label would tell me more about the age of this beer. From Bayern's website it appears this is a seasonal offering. Perhaps this beer has been replaced by 'Montana Lager', which is also a Helles Lager. If so, this 'MonDak Pump Jack' could be a couple of years old. The taste is not terrible but the appearance is odd for a Helles.
