The story of how this beer came about goes like this: During American Craft Beer Week (2nd week in May), Bayern has been offering a different cask-conditioned version of one of their usual offerings each day of the week. It has been a fun opportunity to experiment with some of things you can do with beer that we don't normally do such as dry-hopping and infusing with fruit. The cask (called a firkin) in which we dry-hopped Dump Truck with Citra hops turned out to be one of the best. Summer 2015, Bayern had the opportunity to test drive a centrifuge (a.k.a. separator) allowing us to dry-hop a whole tank of Dump Truck and remove the hops.

500ml pour at the Bierhaus. Cloudy golden with a thin, tight fine head. Sweet, malty aroma. Taste is as expected, adding a touch of citrus to the expected sweet malts, a bit sweet and a bi more bitterness. Subtle but noticeable

it may be that on my recent trip to montana i had the original dump truck likely through a dirty line at a hole in the wall dive bar, and had this special version essentially fresh off the bottling line at the brewery, but this was impressive to me, totally transcends the base beer, and is a super cool fusion of old and new world, a classic with a twist. its a neat idea to spice up a pale bock like this with some more modern dry hopping, the citrusy notes really come through in the aroma and the flavor, and as hop forward as this is, its still quintessentially german, more yeast character coming through to me here than in the original, and more german malt, like the hops somehow enhance both, this even feels a little more substantial in texture despite the springy flavors. it doesnt have much bitterness which is interesting, or rather the malt base is robust enough that this remains especially balanced, its also faster finishing for feeling a little sweet most of the way. i like how unique this is, how the proportions are so right on, and how these guys have deviated from the classic but not totally left it in the dust either, hard to do with these styles and i think they really nailed it. preferable to the original in my experience this time!

L: Hazy straw yellow. A huge 3 and a half bubbly white cap with generous amounts of lacing. Looks appeasing.
S: Smells of bread, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, and grass. Smells nice, just very muted.
T: Very citrusy. Orange, tangerine, lemon and grapefruit are all present. Malt and bread flavor is present and is a welcomed addition to the flavor profile. Citra hop presence is noted in lemongrassy fashion. Finish is citrus sweet with mild bitterness.
F: Low carbonation, soft and smooth. Crisp feeling on the finish which is nice. Its super smooth and highly enjoyable.
O: Super enjoyable. If I had more access to it, I would be pounding these all summer. It's a win in my book. I am very grateful to have tried. Cheers!

From notes taken 07/06/17:
This bock looks about like a Euro Pale. I guess that’s why they call it a Summer Bock on the label, light and refreshing. A mostly clear pale straw gold, with a lemon-white cap of fine, fluffy foam, with great retention. Very fresh lemony, grassy, slightly metallic, slightly tropical hop aroma, with a backdrop of crackery malts. Taste is subdued crackers with a malty tartness behind it, but the main thing is the hops, no surprise. Lemons, grass, perhaps pineapple? Medium-bodied, watery, with mildly tingly carbonation.

Pale, dull yellow with a light white head and slight lacing.
Flavors are bright citrus and bready malts and general light bitterness. Carbonation is medium light and helps the airiness of the hops. The mouthfeel ends with black pepper notes
Really good!
