This limited edition was brewed using an old decoction technique (seldom used in the industry these days and even different than the method Bayern usually uses). Also, to achieve the hoppy 50 IBUs, three different hops additions were employed: a large amount of German Hallertauer Magnum as flavor hops, and two separate additions of Aurora and First Gold hops for aroma/finishing.

Bottle from Main Brew. The label says 5.8% ABV, but the brewer's description says it's 5.9% The brewer also describes this as an IPL/imperial pilsner, but at 5.9% and 50 IBUs, that's a stretch (in this day and age, at least)
A golden copper with a dense, off-white head with good retention but minimal lacing, this looks decent. The nose has an intense Hallertauer hop character, pungent, perfumey, a little minty and a little soapy. This is along with a dusty, doughy malt character with grain, honey and some sweetness. The palate opens with a blend of doughy and sugary sweetness along with a pungent hop flavor that's got some resin, some bitterness, but also a little skunk. A touch of sulfur is also present. Too sweet for my palate. Almost medium in body with moderate, creamy carbonation, this beer finishes with a blend of sweetness and hop flavor. A nice oily hop character is present. Solid stuff.
