Brewed to taste like stronger bock beer but built as a barleywine, The Big Friendly gets clever with the malty-rich and uber-savory munch malt to build a very strong ale.

Deep mahogany and shy with its froth, Open Drums celebrates Munich malt with a strong, spicy, savory and robust perfume of dark sugars, toasted bread, caramelized sweetness, whisky spice and a hint of coffee and cocoa rounded with dark, dried and pitted fruit for a near sherry scent. Upfront sweetness coats the tongue with toffee, molasses, brown sugar and toasted coconut with a rounded savory flavor of heavy toast and madeira. Drying remarkably well, the late taste shows a bitterness of cocoa and coffee with a spice of whisky and oak.

Full bodied but trailing into a light leathery finish, the ale shows such an emboldened sweet start to dry so effortlessly dry, the session shows intangible flavor and mouthfeel components that's hard to describe.
