The pour produced a light hued chestnut brown body and a white, fluffy, sticky head. Sweet, nutty malt aroma with some fruity esters. Warm, toasted grain flavor with slight tangy quality; mild bitterness. Medium-light body weight.
A fair little lager with a respectable lightly toasted nut malt flavor. Relatively mild yet earthy flavor and easy drinking make for a good multi-bottle session beer.

you dont see this one around too much here, i think whatever you do see is likely a little old too, but it appears to be able to handle it pretty well. a pretty classic dunkel here with a nice malt depth and a very flavorful lager yeast strain with only a bit of oxidation on this, no more than most german imports by the time they make the trek to colorado, doesnt taste old, even if it is. creamy head on a nut brown body, not totally clear. earthy toasted maltiness, with a real nice layering of cocoa, raisin, and bran flakes, classically german too, dusty is what it always seems like to me. bready on the yeast spectrum, but drying in the finish, just a little brown sugary sweetness lingers at the end, somewhat fuller and more satisfying overall than a lot of these. some elements of an english dark mild on the grain for a moment it seems. i have been getting more and more into old world beers lately, first the belgians now the germans, i am so interested in the nuances of these styles, and i think this is a pretty distinct example of the dunkel lager. i would like to try it fresh, but if you find one out there, its still worth buying at this point...

Smells of slight caramel malts and brown sugar. Not much coffe or roasted notes on the smell. More of an overall sweetness. And that sweetness continues in the taste. Nice malty toffee notes. Tons of candy sweet notes. Definite bread and buiscuit backbone.
Overall this is very drinkable and feels fairly light on the tongue, wouldn't mind a hint more viscosity. This is a flavorful sessionable bock.

Quite a lovely pour in the Aventinus bulb with the lightest, creamiest head. Color is a dark clear copper. Modest carbonation in the mouth for all the big foam at first pour.
Hint of roasted malt along with the big caramel taste. A little woody and musty with the distinctive European fruity hop flavor. Interesting odor of pecans and leaf mold. Bitter aftertaste is on the medicinal side, but fortunately not very intense.
Maybe if your hobby is German beers this would be interesting, but this just seems like yet another example of cheap Euroswill masquerading as something traditional to be revered. From the 500 ml bottle that showed up at the local supermarket.

very difficult finding this beer on the internet...
nice whitish head on top of a beautiful dark nut brown (think hofbrau dark) liquid.
aroma is of a sweeter malt.
taste is a sweeter malt, with a slight bitter on the sides of the tongue. sweet caramel-y commercial malts. quality taste.
overall... a great 'commercial' tasting german brew. wish i could find more information about this on the internet. couldnt even find it on the brewery's own site, but there are references to it at the Innstadt tasting room. it could be old. many of the brews i get from Hollingshead Deli are old; i dont think their business caters to the take-home drinkers. but they do have quite a selection, as evident here. friendly people, great food, too! but this review is for the beer and the beer is a straight up decent commercial german (bavarian) bock, i think. 4.25 is a fair assessment, i think
