picked up this 16 oz can while in PA for a family visit. Date stamp on can is canned on 9/15/2024. oops. should still be okay, I think.
The beer pours a brown cola color and rests slightly darker in my glass. A creamy beige head of about 2 cm on the pour. This foam fades to a sturdy edge layer and one large wispy island in the center of my glass. I get some tight lattice when I swirl or take a sip from the glass.
Color of the beer is a little light but looks like a good beer.
Aroma is heavy roasted malts and some light chocolate notes, not really sweet though, more of a bakers chocolate. Not really any hop aromas and the ABV is hidden on the nose.
First sip reveals a light to medium body with very fine and tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and this beer drinks pretty easy.
Flavor profile is straightforward and similar to the nose. I get roast malts and baker chocolate, with a little toasted bread, not quite burnt. A little hint of sweeter chocolate on the finish and then my palate dries out on each swallow. Never really any hop character and abv hidden throughout.
This is an easy drinking stout with no frills. Very approachable and something that could be easily consumed over the course of an evening with friends. glad I randomly grabbed this one, doesnt seem any worse for the age.

Poured into a wide mouth grip shaped goblet: color is dark brown to near black, some amber edges, head is light tan and presents 1/4 inch thick, head then dissipates to ring along glass sides.
Smell is light roast, hint of cocoa, touch of caramel, light grassed hops.
Taste is cocoa forward, light roast, light caramel, earthy and grassed hops.
Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, low/moderate bitterness.
Overall a great drinking stout - not overly sweet or over done on the roast, moderate bitterness; I wish I could find more stouts at this level.
