real unique beer here, a blueberry and white chocolate porter, listed on their menu at the new meridian taproom at 8.4% abv, i can see some variation in a beer like this from batch to batch but that seems extreme from what is listed here. in any event, the mix of flavors is cool even if the base porter is a little raw. i found it kind of silted and fuzzy feeling, a touch sweet, and sort of lackluster in its overall execution, even if the flavors are cool, which they certainly are. the blueberry has some mild astringency to it, adds a mellow tang to this which keeps it from being too sugary, natural and identifiable too, not jammy or overly concentrated or anything. the white chocolate makes the beer kind of creamy and rich, and the fuller medium body is nice with it, but its not necessarily identifiable as white chocolate, even if the texture and flavors are cool, there is a milk chocolate thing from the malt too, and not all that much offsetting bitter roasted barley on the darker end, so what the chocolate does add pops out plenty. in rating this i am giving a heck of a lot more credit for the idea than the execution. its tasty now, but the potential for it to be incredible is certainly there, and based on how good other things are here already, they will get this dialed in too. not quite there yet, but very clever.

Crowler fill from the brewery, poured into a pint glass.
Pours out transparent brown; lighter than expected for the abv. Aromas of coffee and dark bakers chocolate with impressions of earthy hopping, light sweetness. The palate opens up with some smoky blueberry and a dose of bitterness bordering on acrid...there is an impression of earthy coffee in the roasted bitterness, with more of that sweetness hanging on to round it out, with a ghostly flash of blueberry on a finish that combines with toasted caramel. A bit disjointed but unique and enjoyable to me.

16 oz crowler from brewery. Dark ruddy brown pour, finely beaded beige head. Aroma is a nice blend of roast malts, chocolate and blueberries. Taste starts sweet, transitioning into the bitterness of the dark malts. Still a touch of sweetness at the finish.
