a solid if simple take on the style, i like that the oats can be tasted here, and this sets it self up well for nitro, although its not yet available in that format apparently, it has a high rising and long lasting tan cream head which almost gives it the same effect, especially with the smooth creaminess of the oats, a very classic example of the style. i found it to be relatively bitter though, which i enjoy just fine, but i think might not be for everyone. its not harsh, but it certainly lingers on the center of the tongue after each sip, a deep black coffee level of bitterness, just short of burnt. there isnt much malt sweetness in the middle of this to balance it out, so it seems a little skewed that way, but the oats smooth it out plenty for me, and give the beer a nice weight overall. fine carbonation, a nutty hint, and a trace of milk chocolate too, good and dry which i also like in the style. its nice to see these guys doing well, really solid beers across the board and their second location just opened up, i liked all we had in there this weekend!

Crowler pour from the brewery poured into a pint nonic.
Medium opaque brown/black pour with good head lacing. Aromas of oats and some caramel sweetness, with hints of coffee. The palate follows with more dark & robust oat and barley character, with a roasty and semi-bitter finish on a creamy light-to-medium body.
