a blonde stout, that was so five years ago, and i have trouble listing a beer like this as a stout, oats and dark notes in it or not, its still a blonde to me. anyway, this is better than almost all of them that ive ever had, and its among the best loose screw beers ive had to date, they really should be proud of this one, it exceeded my expectations many times over. for one the low alcohol is appreciated, so many of these push to the imperial range, end up hot and unbalanced, not to mention overly sweet. lots of them are packed with lactose too to try to cream them up, build some body and extend them, this one doesnt fall into that trap either. the coffee in this is also awesome, which really is where its made for me, roasty but with a dry bitter chocolate note too, maybe there are nibs in here, i didnt get the full description, but it seems all about the coffee, light smoke, deep richness, woody, earthy, wonderful with the simple pale barley malt and light honey note, its not milky or sweet or heavy, and its actually impressively bitter through the back portion, more like a real stout than most of these, even without a ton of body. its super smooth to drink, well carbonated and lively, and really has a nice coffee aftertaste even though the beer is dry. really excellent, they could just call it a coffee blonde ale, but overall this is a top beer from these guys, hope they keep it around permanently, id drink more of this than any of their others, bravo!
