the first west coast type i have had from these guys in awhile, thanks to my friend for bringing over a couple cans of their new stuff, i was impressed with this and the blonde coffee stout that just dropped. this has a little color to, not quite rust orange, not quite bronze, but not that pale either, a little richer maybe for the oncoming fall season. good clarity though, a full inch of relatively creamy white head, and a very fresh nose. they use all idaho hops for this, not sure which ones, but it doesnt have any of the green onion character those sometimes seem to, and its brightly citrus forward, with orange zest and tangerine notes to it, not a juice bomb, there is some oily dankness to it keeping it more classic, even a mosaic note to my senses, but i didnt know we were growing those here, so im not sure. light pineapple from the can, pink grapefruit, a resinous northwestern intensity for a flash in the middle, and then balanced slightly sweet finish that extends the hops, light gin, lime, and sweet orange at the end, clean on the swallow and on the ferment, a step forward for these guys, who have had some issues with that in past hoppy beers, nice improvement here to overall quality. maybe not the most radical hop profile, but i like the freshness, the balance, and the technical execution, this is really solid, a great addition to their lineup and a cool showcase of local ingredients.
