neat concept here, a cold hazy, which i know is a little different, like the cold is usually synonymous with clean and clear and light on the grain side, and this isnt that, but the cooler fermentation does neat things with the hops in here, dry hoppy more than bitter by a mile, and perhaps some additional drinkability is accrued above and beyond a normal hazy, although this certainly isnt lager-like or anything, i appreciate it being a bit creative. a little dull and messy looking, pretty pale, frothed up inch of head from the tap at the source, quicker fade on it, and this does thin out a bit i suppose. the nose is awesome, maybe the best part of this, pineapple forward and juicy, with notes of pineapple candy, orange and lemon zest, herbal gin, and mandarins from the can, real pleasant, summery, and not weighted down too much by the starchy grain, lightly thiol forward but not probably done with an engineered yeast to enhance that, a little white wine fruitiness too as it warms. the flavor is close, but the nose is a bit more punchy and some greenness does arise like they took this a half step past the saturation point, but the citrus and tropical complexion remains and this has a ton of flavor. i like what the grain does, kind of raw and earthy but supportive and simple, this could be cleaned up some, but its a nice effort anyway, well enough carbonated, pineapple aftertaste, low bitterness but not none, still drinks like ipa, and its on the dry side overall. something just a little outside the ordinary here, and my favorite of the hoppy stuff ive had from them in two recent visits. close to excellence...

Style: New Egland Hazy

After drowning worms, I am returning to write a few reviews before bedtime. I served the beer in a belcher glass at 42 degrees. The pour created a massive three-fingered bright white head with above-average retention. The slow dissipation left lots of lacing on the glass. The color is golden yellow, with straw yellow hues charting around SRM 6. The clarity is hazy; I am surprised the beer is not hazier. The appearance is above average for this style.
Nosing the glass, I mangos, pineapple, peaches, lychee, orange peel, melon, and white wine. The beer smells like it has Nelson in it. Swirling the glass, I get gooseberries, dank, and floral blossoms. The hops are bright and fragrant. The malt profile is crackers and lightly toasted bread.
If the beer has Nelson, the hop flavor tapered off a bit; I taste floral blossoms, gooseberries, and a faint note of white wine. Other hop flavors I taste are melons, orange peel, apricots, pineapple, lychee, a skosh of onion, and floral blossom. The malt backbone could have been better for this complex hop profile. The malt characters are bread, crackers, lightly toasted bread crust, and malty sweetness.
The mouthfeel is astringent and tannic with a dry finish. The body is medium and has medium carbonation.
The beer is quite enjoyable, other than my wanting a slightly firmer malt backbone. I love the hop combination; it is complex yet refreshing. Next time I am in Boise, I am going to stop by and grab a few pints.

Marketed as a cold-IPA, pours with that familiar IPL pale cloudiness, not quite golden, with a ring of white lacing. Leans into that dank, fruity, diesel-y profile that a lot of new-school IPA's and IPL's are going, stone fruit as well. Crisp and clean.
