not enough breweries in these parts playing in these styles, love to see something classic and english like this, and it was cool to check out their new brewery space in downtown meridian, although i dont think many of the beers on tap were actually produced at this location yet, give it a month or so and that will be different, their team was hard at work. this is excellent dark mild, on the darker end in color range, almost brown, less red, some body to it but still so light, frothy tan head on it, lots of bubbles for the style too, would love to see this on cask! the aroma is rightly bready and pretty classically english on the grain side, although the yeast aspect is pretty mellow in here, not quite old world authentic but the mission is clear, some raisin and fig, some dark toast, good minerality, and seems drier than i thought it might be. the flavor is fresh and more robust than the nose, great malt depth to this, molasses for sure, a little hazelnut note, bran muffin, light maple, even kind of woody, very well built. without much hop character and again minimal on the ferment for the style, some middle sweetness is cleaned up by the end though, and this isnt lacking in any way. smooth to drink on, almost healthful feeling, and executed to a much higher technical degree than i am used to from these guys, but it has admittedly been awhile since i had any of their stuff. real signs of progress in quality here, and there is some obvious money behind the operation with this new space, they should do extremely well here, and i hope the english stuff has a permanent place on their beer list!

Draft at Loose Screw- Downtown. Clear, dark brown pour, thin cap of off-white head. Mellow, roasty malt aroma. Taste starts with the roast bitterness, coupled with some sweet cola notes. Dry finish, with some lingering bitterness.
