Pours a deep, dark amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt and resinous, citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit and pine. Taste is a great balance of bready, caramel malt and fruity, bitter, herbal and resinous hops, with citrus notes of grapefruit and a good dose of pine also coming through. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While this styles itself as a West Coast IPA, it feels more like an East Coast IPA, with a strong, sweet'ish caramel backbone balanced very nicely against some bitter and resinous hops with distinct citrus and pine notes and good bitterness in the finish. While this could perhaps still be a little more bitter for the style, the balance between sweet malts and bitter hops works out rather nicely here, making for a rather enjoyable example of the style.
